Tim Moffatt - Broomhill.

Tim Moffatt, running in the Broomhill Ward, has had to endure watching Labour and the Greens simply attack Paul Scriven and vice-versa, while it appears what the actual people of Broomhill care about is forgotten. Son of a steel worker and grandson of a miner, Tim has lived in Sheffield all of his life. He works at Tapton School in Crosspool with students who have learning difficulties, Tim is also Drama Extra Curricular Coordinator in charge of 3 theatre companies from all year groups of the school aged from 11-18. Alonside this, Tim is also a part-time student at The University of Sheffield studying a degree in English Literature and Creative Media. Tim lives in Lodge Moor and has been heavily involved with the Fulwood Ward campaign to elect Vonny Watts

 Vonny Watts - Fulwood

Vonny is a resident of Ranmoor and has lived there for 7 years with her husband and 9 year old daughter. She grew up on the Lowedges estate and battled to make her way through Sheffield University. She then taught in schools throughout South Yorkshire for over ten years and has sharply focused ideas about education needs in Sheffield. In particular she wants to maintain the standards of excellence in our local schools and protect them from being diluted by over-stretching their resources. She also believes that the right to a place at those schools should be given to children in our area as a first priority. The recent farce around school places, where many children have had to be redirected to schools outside their area, should have been monitored and anticipated by councillors in our areas.

Vonny is now a director of a small engineering firm in Sheffield and is well placed to know exactly what our manufacturing base needs to thrive. Currently the demand for apprenticeships is outstripping supply. Vonny says, "There will come a time, in the not too distant future, when we will quite literally run out of engineers. Firms are telling me that what they need is shop floor staff who can work a lathe or a milling machine so that they can have confidence to grow their business. These skills will die out unless we properly invest in practical, workplace-based apprenticeships. I fear that too much money is being skimmed off by training companies when firms themselves are best placed to use that money to train apprentices the way they want."

In Fulwood, Vonny has worked tirelessly on many planning issues. She has had success in the Blackbrook area in particular where planning applications have become unsustainable. Plots originally designed as small retirement bungalows are being raided by developers to extend footprints to 5 bedroom homes and this is simply not in keeping with the area. Vonny will continue to fight these kinds of applications on behalf of residents.

She is also working on parking problems around Hallam Primary School, Notre Dame School and Lodge Moor Surgery.

Vonny has also tidied up problem areas in the ward such as the steps in Storth Lane. She is happy to take further reports of blackspots that need attention.

Vonny is now working to secure funding for the Westminster residents who have sought her help after carpets were removed from communal areas and not replaced leaving them noisy, cold, and unattractive. Vonny is supporting residents in their bid to obtain money for improvements through the "Going Local" funds which will shortly be available

Anne Smith - Dore and Totley.

Anne Smith is running once again in Dore and Totley. Anne has had fantastic and constantly growing support since her exciting announcement as a candidate. Anne was a fantastic and well-respected councillor for 8 years and is still fondly remembered for the excellent work she did whilst representing the ward.

Anne has been particularly concerned lately about the schools in her area. Children from Dore and Totley are now to be sent to schools in Low Edges, Batemoor and Nether Edge because insufficient places are available in their local primary school.

Anne Smith is very concerned about this. "One of the most desirable features of our Ward is the quality of our local schools. Yet now pupils are being turned away from their local primaries in South West Sheffield because our Councillors and officials didn't understand what was happening. They have admitted that the situation in Dore and Totley has taken them by surprise".

Our Lib Dem Councillors are as much to blame over this as officials. It is their job to ensure that adequate planning is in place in their Wards to deal with situations that arise. They have failed to do it. Anne is demanding action to put the situation right.

Anne has also been fighting relentlessly on issues such as planning, parks and green spaces, issues affecting the elderly, who she believes need to be treated with dignity and respect and who should be granted the correct resources to achieve that by our council.

 Christina Stark - Ecclesall

Having grown up in Sheffield and still living locally I am fully aware of the issues that affect and concern each and every one of us every day.  With four grandchildren, and being the carer of my ninety year old mother, I understand the needs and issues affecting people across the generations.

As a single mother I raised two sons and later built up a successful retail business in Sheffield. I have never been cushioned from the trials and rigours of the real world.

I have been a Conservative since my teens when I used to attend political meetings on my Lambretta. Despite the difficulties facing our city, our country and the world at large I firmly believe that ultimately Conservatives, whether in the Town Hall or Westminister, offer the best solutions to our problems.

On the 3rd May, should you elect me to serve as your councillor, you will get someone with real life experience who will work hard on your behalf..
