Sheffield Conservatives

Sheffield Conservatives come from every background and walk of life. They can be found in any local community  in Sheffield, working for a positive, compassionate and environmentally friendly vision for our City. Under David Cameron's inspired leadership we are adapting to changing social conditions and facing up to the new challenges in our country and our city. As modern compassionate Conservatives we are united around a set of aspirations and values.

About Sheffield Conservatives

In 2006 the five Conservative Associations of Sheffield (Brightside, Hallam, Heeley, Attercliffe1   and Hillsborough2) amalgamated and became The Sheffield Conservative Association3 thus ending what was previously known as The City of Sheffield Conservative Federation.

Since the reorganisation, Sheffield Conservatives have been actively campaigning throughout the city and have seen an increase in support both in terms of membership and at the polls - at this year's local elections, Sheffield Conservatives gained a Parish Council seat for the Stocksbridge Town Hall from the Liberal Democrats; the first gain in a number of years! While Parish Councils don't always get the coverage metropolitan seats get, they nevertheless play an essential part in local community participation.

Within these six constituencies are 28 wards, which make up Sheffield City Council. Each ward elects three councillors - the maximum term of office being four years. Sheffield is also part of the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Constituency, which elects six Members of the European Parliament. Our current representatives are Edward McMillan-Scott and Timothy Kirkhope.

SInce 2007 Sheffield Conservatives have been represented in the Shadow Cabinet by The Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Shadow Minister for Community Cohesion and Social Action.

1 The Boundary Commission has recommended that Sheffield Attercliffe be renamed Sheffield South East at the next General Election

2 Sheffield Hillsborough has also been abolished under the recommendations of the Boundary Commission and has been divided up and incorporated into the Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough, Sheffield Hallam and Penistone and Stocksbridge constituencies.

3 For normal day-to-day use, the association is simply referred to as 'Sheffield Conservatives.'
